"Would You Willingly Ingest Poison If Offered? So Why Are You Buying It Off Store Shelves?"

ree

Introduction:

What if I told you that every time you eat something off the shelf, you're unknowingly ingesting poison? You might raise an eyebrow, thinking I’m being dramatic, but the reality is closer to the truth than we often want to acknowledge. Every day, we make choices about what we put into our bodies, and often, we do so without understanding the consequences. If we knew something was harmful to our health—something that could potentially damage our organs, weaken our immune system, and even lead to chronic illnesses—would we still choose to eat it? Fear will poison the mind, but awareness can set us free.

The Poison on the Shelves:

In the modern food industry, many foods are laden with chemicals, preservatives, and artificial ingredients that do nothing but harm. Highly processed snacks, sugary drinks, and even seemingly healthy options like pre-packaged salads can contain toxic ingredients that have been linked to a variety of health problems, from obesity and diabetes to cancer and heart disease. But, just like if we were offered literal poison, we often accept these foods without question.

Why Are We Still Eating It?

We’ve all heard the phrase, “You are what you eat,” but have we really stopped to consider the weight of that statement? When you consume foods that are not only void of nutrients but actually contain harmful substances, you are literally feeding your body poison. Foods like artificial sweeteners, hydrogenated oils, and high-fructose corn syrup may seem like harmless ingredients on the label, but they have been linked to inflammation, insulin resistance, and other chronic conditions.

Here’s the science:

  • Processed foods and added sugars are directly linked to chronic diseases like obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer. According to the American Heart Association, added sugars in our diet contribute to the rise in cardiovascular diseases, and artificial additives in foods like sodas and packaged snacks have been known to cause long-term harm.

  • Trans fats, found in many packaged snacks, cookies, and fast food, are one of the leading causes of heart disease. They raise bad cholesterol (LDL) and lower good cholesterol (HDL), putting unnecessary strain on the heart and blood vessels.

  • Preservatives and artificial colors can mess with our immune system, leading to allergies, headaches, and even behavioral issues in children.

When you really dig into the ingredients list of common snacks and fast food, you’ll see that many of them are no different than poison, and they’re being sold to you as “harmless.” The real question is: Why do we continue to put these foods into our bodies?

Choosing Not to Poison Yourself:

As a nutritionist and someone who is training to become a doctor, one of the oaths we take is “do no harm.” And this isn’t just a promise to our patients—it’s something I personally live by for my family. I refuse to knowingly feed them harmful food, just like I would never willingly hand them a poison-laced drink.

When I learned about how food impacts the body, my commitment to keeping my family healthy grew even stronger. I don't believe in "convenience eating" when it's at the expense of our health. We can take control of what goes into our bodies, and choosing whole, natural foods is one of the best ways to nourish our bodies.

The Power of Knowledge:

Once we know better, we must do better. Just as I would never give my children or my husband poison, I will not give them food that will harm their bodies. This is why my family follows a pescatarian diet—a lifestyle I feel God has called us to as we prepare for what’s ahead. I know that we are living in a time where the global food system is being challenged, and preparing ourselves by making conscious food choices now can protect us from what’s coming.

This isn’t just about avoiding fast food and junk snacks—it’s about understanding the importance of what we consume and the long-term impact it has on our bodies. Our bodies are temples, and we are called to take care of them. As you’re learning about what truly nourishes you, don’t ignore the harmful ingredients that are hiding in plain sight.

The Bottom Line:

Ask yourself: If you knew a food was harmful, would you keep eating it? If the answer is no, then why are you still choosing to eat those processed, chemical-laden foods on the shelf? If we truly want to thrive, we must be intentional about what we put into our bodies and make a commitment to feed ourselves what nourishes, not poisons.

Fear will poison your choices if you let it. But when you educate yourself on the food industry and take a stand for your health, you can break free from the toxic cycle. Stop poisoning yourself, your body, and your future. Choose what’s healthy, whole, and pure, and watch your body transform.
